Friendship Activity is the opportunity for your patrol to learn something from another group of people their own age. The activity can be social or scouting in nature and can range from a short hike or pioneering or cooking to community service or a fun activity.
You may not do a Friendship Activity with a troop in the Liesbeek District (i.e. not with 1st or 3rd Pinelands, 2nd or 6th Rondebosch or 1st Rosebank).
Both a planning document and a report is required. This additional requirements has been introduced for three reasons:
- To help you cope with Springbok more easily;
- To ensure that your plan is appropriate and covers all the necessary aspects – It helps you to plan this activity if you consciously have to write down and think through certain aspects;
- To ensure that this activities is run effectively and that you take note of what went wrong and what went
right for future improvement.
The report however does not have to be many pages long. Including everything it should not be longer than about 6 pages, as a guideline. We are looking for concise, clear summaries – not long detailed explanations.
Planning Document
The planning document must include, at a minimum:
- A front page;
- An index of contents
- Details of the activity, including the objective (why are you doing this);
- Details of who will be attending – including the group who you are doing the friendship activity with – details such as names, ages and who belongs to what organisation are relevant.
- How the objective will be met;
- The risk of the activity and how you will mitigate them;
- How you will organise the activity – e.g. how will you organise the participants; equipment; what help you might need, etc
- The times and date of the activity;
- Any transport requirements and who will be doing transport;
- Copies of your communications;
- Your permit.
The planning can be submitted electronically to the scouter responsible. you do not have to wait for approval but can proceed with planning your activity.
Your planning must be submitted at least 7 days before the activity.
Once your activity has taken place you must submit a report. This must be submitted within 14 days of the activity being completed.
Report
Your report must include, at a minimum:
- A front page
- An index of contents.
- Who actually attended;
- How did the activity go;
- What problems did you encounter;
- How did you overcome those problems;
- What would you do differently next time;
- Whether you feel the objective was met.
As above, the report must not be long. As a guideline it should be about 6 pages as a guideline (everything included). Again, we are looking for short, concise, clear writing – not long detailed explanations. If you can include photo’s, that makes your report much better.
