Our Cubs had a lovely hike in Newlands Forest this Our Cubs had a lovely hike in Newlands Forest this evening to end off our term. We learnt about indigenous Forest and plantations and why both are necessary. We also learnt about ringbarking trees and when that is done intentionally and when it tragically happens as a result of bark stripping.

The Meerkats collected children's books to donate The Meerkats collected children's books to donate to a small rural pre-school and village in northwest Zimbabwe. The children have very little. Janet Dube (who came to our meeting last month) is running a library there. The children read the books after school as there are no books at school itself. Thank you, parents for your generous donations.

Saturday was the annual Gilwell Reunion, for adult Saturday was the annual Gilwell Reunion, for adult leaders who hold the Wood Badge. The day began with various social events including a tour of a private Naval Museum hosted by retired Admiral Arne Sorundsen, followed by a get together at the 1st Claremont hall. This year we have 5 active Wood Badge holders at 1st Claremont (one was not able to attend), and we also have two (much younger!) trainees who will hopefully receive their Wood Badges soon.
