In the millenniums of Scout history, there have been countless tales of bravery, resourcefulness, and teamwork. But today, dear readers, I bring you a story of snorkelling with Scouts that took an unexpected turn into the realm of hilarity.
En route to the beach we stopped to hire wetsuits. Some doubted if Simon had remembered to wear anything under his, he assured us he had. Daniel arrived dejectedly as usual. He’s getting very sombre in his old age.
We arrived at the beach and surveyed our underwater wonderland. It seemed calm and easy for beginners to tackle. We got into our wetsuits, geared up and powered up the GoPros.
As we began our descent into the underwater kingdom, Daniel led the way. Or, shivered the way. His wetsuit was very thin. Something about reducing drag. Not really a concern when your core temperature is below -300 degrees Celcius.
But the aquatic amusement didn’t end there. Oh no, dear readers. As we continued our aquatic escapade, we discovered that snorkeling, much like life, is full of surprises. One Scout, who shall remain unnamed, in his eagerness to explore, forgot how to swim. With each kick (some landing on people rather than water) he seemed to stray further into the realm of breakdancing. Nothing, not even a weight belt, of which the weights were accidentally sunk many times, could hold him in place.
Despite these comical mishaps, our snorkeling adventure was not without its share of breathtaking sights. Kelp forests, shoals of fish, vast sandy seabed and pretty shells. Amidst the laughter and chaos, we were reminded of the beauty and diversity that lie beneath the surface of our world. So, dear readers, if you ever find yourself snorkeling with Scouts, be prepared for unexpected laughter, memorable moments, and a healthy dose of aquatic amusement. For in the realm of underwater adventures, it’s not just the fish that provide entertainment, but the Scouts themselves who bring laughter and joy to the table.
