The 1st Claremont hall was built in 1940, and there is a board in the hall listing the community members who funded the construction – quite an achievement during wartime! In the last year our maintenance efforts included painting the exterior, improving the exterior lighting, upgrading the gravel driveway into the grounds, and cutting back the hedge in the vacant land next door, which was a fire hazard due to vagrancy. Particular thanks to Pierre for arranging these and many other maintenance projects.
The next big task is to replace the roof over the stage and back room. This is a 1950s asbestos roof and there are structural problems in the rafters, causing the roof to sag. The fascias are rotting, and the flat section over the side room is covered in layers of old malthoid that probably won’t keep the rain out much longer. We expect this to be a very substantial expense for the group and although we have already started saving for it, we will have to increase our fund raising effort over the next 2-3 years. This will include requesting a voluntary contribution in addition to annual subscriptions for Scouts, Cubs and Meerkats.
The hall is looking much smarter after exterior painting and substantial pruning of the shrubs and trees at the front. 
The roof over the back part of the hall (stage and back room) is old and in need of replacement.
