Bats Log

Bats had a wonderful term. We got Three new scouts namely Harry, Layleh and Jean. They are all hard working and very active which is great to see. Harry was a cub but the others are new to it and it’s been great to see them latch on and enjoy the movement.
We also got a New APL Malakia who is doing great in the patrol and being a great influence on the little ones. The veterans of the bats patrol namely Paige, Oliver and Julia are all still moving strong and helping teach the new ones. I’m very excited to see what bats have to offer in the next year and all the shenanigans we will of course get up to. We also managed to win MOSCIP this term which was great.

Julia’s Cooks Meal
I arrived 45 minutes late to the preparation, as I forgot. When I got there, Paige had started with my cutting as I was late, but I took over and cut all the veggies for the spring rolls while Julia helped Malaki with dessert, which was a Macha Swiss roll. Julia also made a sweet chili sauce and helped me cook all the noodles and the cut vegetables together, which we then folded into spring rolls, which proved quite hard.

My job then was to fry them and put them on the table. While this was happening, someone forgot to preheat the oven, and now we had to wait for it to heat up. We also had to get more cream, as it had separated. Paige was tasked with making sushi, as she was really good at it. Julia also made some ice tea and malaki fries while making dessert.
Caleb arrived at 5:40 to an amazing-looking table. The food was very good, and Caleb said he enjoyed it. We then cleaned up and went home.

Tim’s First Class Hike

After an upsettingly long time spent trying to get this hike to happen it finally ran. There were four iterations of this hike and finally I got a hike that would work. Entitled ‘The Phoenix hike’ my First Class hike took place on the tenth and eleventh of February. The hike took place in Cape Point and we stayed overnight on Eagles Rest Private nature reserve and went back into Cape Point the next day. The hike was great. The hikers were a mix of Bats and Swift Scouts who were in Bats last year when I planned to run the hike. Myself, Peter Raynham, Julia Webb, Emily Gilham, Oliver Ringrose and Paige Staak all attended the hike. It was a great time and the hike was beautiful. The first day was long and flat with a lot of ascents in the last quarter but it was nice and windy which made it comfortable to hike. The overnight spot was great and we had a great time chilling and having food. The next day was amazing but very up and down elevation all the way. The hiking was good while it was windy but when we dropped behind the peak and the wind was gone we absolutely cooked. The Hike was great and I’m so happy it has finally been run.
