On a sunny day on some day this term Eagles made their visit to the Simon’s Town NSRI.
We all arrived at the hall promptly and bearing consent forms [luckily] and drove speedily to the Base in Simons Town. We were greeted by a very modern and clean looking base with a very modern and clean looking boat sitting inside it. After meeting Steve and his experienced accomplice we were told many nail biting stories about rescues as well as the history of the station and the deep breakdown of how it really works. We then ventured onto their beautiful and very speedy boat to look at the inner workings. Steve told us how normally these rescue boats are sponsored by many many people as they are incredibly expensive, but that their boat was funded by only one very kind person, whom the boat is now named after. We saw all kinds of up market boat tech such as shock-absorbant seats, nautical compasses, cool coffee machines and lots and lots of engines.
It was a really cool place for a patrol activity and I highly recommend other patrols visit too!”
