2022 saw the 1st Claremont scout troop welcome a new Troop Scouter as Daniel LeJeune picked up the baton – or maybe in the scouting world – the woggle?
And it has certainly been a busy year so far – with our Meerkats, Cubs and Scouts taking part in numerous activities and events.
The Meerkats have had a busy first term with lots of fun activities in the den, hiking in Newlands Forest and a chance to ‘sail’ from base to base as pirates as part of an inter-troop event.
The Cubs have been busy with a mix of activities and advancements – both at the hall and out and about activities. Highlights have included a Cub Camp – the first we’ve been able to hold for a while – and two of the cubs attending the regional Senior Cub Camp.
The Scouting year kicked off with the Kontiki competition. This is a resource and time intensive undertaking and is not without its challenges – as Luke reflects. However, it was an overall fun and worthwhile event as the photos reveal.
Hiking is a big part of the 1st Claremont tradition – and this year the scouts were able to hike the Elandspad trail. Some of them got to enjoy hiking in the rain on Alex’s first class hike!
Upton Shield is a prestigious event for the junior scouts, and this year saw 1st Claremont do exceptionally well in the competition, as the photos reveal! You can read what the scouts themselves had to say about it here and here.
And as always, we close with an update from our Scout Group Leader, Ian Webb.
