The Juli(a)(et)(ette)s and Avila win Upton

This year 1st Claremont entered 3 teams into Upton Shield (a hiking competition for juniors: 11-14,5), and I was the PL of one of the teams. There were 65 teams in total.

We arrived at the hall around 6:45 and packed the cars, to arrive at Hawequas Forest Station for registration at 8:20 and to start the competition. We set off on the hike and did many bases varying from first aid to cooking and even a ‘macho team swim’ in the dam. All of the bases were very scout based and our teams did extremely well, reflecting our knowledge and love of scouting.

My patrol (team C), was quite far ahead of the majority of the teams, which is a huge advantage, as the bases open and close at certain times and if you are stuck in backlog, you might only get to a base after it has closed. As a result of all of our hard work our teams came 1st, 14th and 32nd.

I think this Upton was a great learning experience and we all had a lot of fun.
