Natasha’s Springbok Camp

On the 31 January 2020, excited scouts met up at the hall. We were going on Natasha’s Springbok Camp. Jack, Kristen, Alex, Aziz, Aidan, Jason, Sebastian and me (Ethan) were on camp. All of us were wanting to find what was in store for the weekend. I spied hot chocolate being packed in, at least I knew we wouldn’t die of thirst. After arriving at Appleton we quickly unpacked with one scout (Jason) almost leaving his bag in the car. That night we set up tents, built gadgets and drank hot chocolate. (Told you we wouldn’t die of thirst.) Somehow Jason managed to mess hot chocolate all over the WHITE wall!

In the morning we made ourselves some dodgy oats (never eat food made by scouts) and sandwiches for the hike up Lion’s Head. After getting lots of advancements signed off, we slapped on some sun-cream and started the long and bedraggling walk uphill. Most of us couldn’t understand why Jason was collecting rocks & putting them in his backpack — he said he wanted to take them home. It was a milk-sportingly funny sight as Jason complained that his bag was too heavy and took all the rocks out after getting three quarters up and down Lion’s Head. After supper, chicken stew, a Twister championship took place with Alex being the overall winner. Me, being a clever person, went to bed soon after because we were getting up early to see the sunrise. The others spent what seemed like hours playing UNO with 2nd Hout Bay, who were sharing the camp-site with.

On the Sunday we watched a disappointing, cloudy sunrise, had 2 Scout’s Owns and packed up our stuff. Then we waited for hours, playing UNO, to be picked up by parents that had said they would kindly lift us. Sadly camp finishes and the parents took us to the scout hall. My favourite thing was the Twister championship and the syrup-soaked flapjacks. Thank you to parents who lifted and to Natasha who ran a wonderful camp.
