Gordon Shield ran over the 11thand 12th of September. We were only allowed to put in one team of five, which consisted of two seniors and three older juniors. Usually we are able to put in two teams of eight. The competition was split into two areas — half of the troops were at Hawequas (which is where our team was based) and the others were at Glencairn. The first day was pretty warm and it looked as though it was going to be a hot weekend, however on the second day Hawequas did not fail in its tradition and it started to rain. However, this did not affect the team’s energy or morale and it seemed like everyone was having fun and enjoying the competition. Since COVID struck, we haven’t had the chance to do that many outdoor activities and camps. This as well as the fact that we didn’t have Gordon’s last year contributed to the fact that our camping skills were not up to the standard that they should’ve been. All in all the Gordon’s team didn’t do too badly and it was quite a bit of a learning experience.
