Our Meerkat Den ended their first year on a golden note with five Meerkats achieving the top award – the Gold Star. They had to earn a challenge badge in six themes, plus three interest badges as well as the Standing Tall badge, which focusses on living out their promise. We are very proud of (left to right in the photo): Sarah du Toit, Maya Nair, Ahren Vorster, Luca Rethman and Neema Galetta.
Our senior Meerkats then Burrowed up to Cubs on 4 December. We had received a boost to our understanding of ceremonies when we were invited by National Scout HQ to be the anchor group for the filming of ceremonies on 27 November. We were joined by Meerkats and Cubs from DK Sea Scouts and Cub and Scouts from 6th Rondebosch, 1st Belvedere and 1st Claremont. All the Meerkats donned orange scarves and we went through four ceremonies four times each! Fortunately, there were breaks for snacks. The filming took all morning. The Meerkats got to know other Meerkats and learnt the precise way in which our ceremonies should be conducted. They were real little film stars!

Just to ensure we ended on a perfectly happy note, we had our first real campfire ever, plus a picnic! Happy New Year to all in 1st Claremont.
